Let’s face it: there’s nothing easy about starting over again. Whether you’re settling in a new city, entering another relationship, or back on the job market, hitting the reset button can often feel like you’ve taken two steps forward and one step back.
But after being in the position of looking for more fulfilling career opportunities myself, I can tell you firsthand that starting over is an illusion. Because you’re not really starting over but rather starting something new with the addition of the wisdom that can only come from your experience.
Best of all, leveraging your experience isn’t the only advantage of starting over. Once you can get past the fear of the unknown and let go of the expectation of what you should be accomplishing in the future, there are plenty more perks to take advantage of. And I’m excited to share four of them with you below.
4 Advantages of Hitting the Reset Button
1. You become clear about what you truly want – when you face the decision of starting something all over again, you begin to rethink everything and become clear about what you truly want. For me, it was realizing finding a company that fits my values and provides me with the opportunity to learn something valuable on the job is far more important than landing a job at a Fortune 500 company with an incredible equity package.
2. You can do things differently this time around – if you know anything about me, I’m a big believer in showing up as your most authentic self. So, if a part of you didn’t show up in the way you wanted in your last job, relationship, you name it, this is your opportunity to do things differently and bring your most authentic self to the table.
3. You’re able to leverage your past experiences – while it might feel like you’re starting over from scratch, don’t forget you already have a wealth of expertise and experience behind you that you can leverage. Not to mention, there’s something incredibly rewarding about bringing a wealth of knowledge to a new space.
4. You get to step outside of your comfort zone and grow – there’s no better (and faster) way to grow professionally and personally than to step outside your comfort zone and use fear as fuel. So, if growth is a priority for you, challenge yourself to get uncomfortable.
Now that I’ve shared some advantages of starting over, I want to hear from you. Leave a comment below or message me here with something you’re hitting the reset button on so we can cheer each other on along the way!
